« Ils entendent mais ils n’écoutent pas, ils voient mais ils ne regardent pas, ils savent mais ils ne comprennent pas. »

Ces trois singes classiques me semblent résumer la situation de la médecine officielle actuelle.

On entend le malade mais on ne l’écoute pas, il suffit d’avoir assez de signes cliniques ou biologiques pour qu’il entre dans une case diagnostique préconçue d’où on lui appliquera le traitement « scientifique » correspondant, imposé et auto-validé par les assurances.

On voit le malade mais personne ne le regarde, on ne considère que la partie malade, de la même façon que le sot regarde l‘index du sage quand il désigne la lune. Qui est capable de conceptualiser que la partie malade n’est qu’un reflet, un écho, de la totalité déréglée ?

On sait plein de choses apprises par cœur au sortir des études de médecine, mais on ne comprend toujours pas le patient. De nombreux savants ont créé autant de théories sur le fonctionnement de l’organisme, mais on ne comprend toujours pas grand chose à ce qu’est la vie et encore moins l’origine des maladies. Cette approche réductionniste a fait faillite en ce qui concerne la médecine.

Seul un changement complet de paradigme peut sortir la médecine de l’ornière où elle s’embourbe toujours plus profondément à mesure que « sortent » de nouvelles drogues de plus en plus puissantes, ce qui génère de plus en plus de pathologies complètement inconnues il y a 10 ans encore.

Ce changement porte un nom : c’est l’homéopathie.

Mais entendons nous bien, nous parlons ici de l’homéopathie telle que Hahnemann l’a découverte et appliquée, et non pas de l’imposture telle que nous la rapportent bien des malades déçus par des traitements si compliqués qu’il faut un tableur Excel pour s’y retrouver, trompés par des praticiens qui n’ont qu’une connaissance superficielle, voire caricaturale de l’homéopathie. L’homéopathie n’est pas non plus une voie philosophique, ni un chemin de développement personnel malgré toutes les sottises que peuvent écrire des non-médecins qui se sont appropriés du sujet.

Non, l’homéopathie désigne la seule façon de guérir les patients en employant des moyens pharmacologiques et si notre premier devoir de médecins consiste à guérir les malades, notre seconde obligation est de faire connaître au monde ce qu’est l’homéopathie, sa merveilleuse simplicité, son efficacité et sa rapidité, et sur quels principes et quelles lois elle repose.

Dans un monde qui confond indifférence avec tolérance, c’est un propos qui choque n’est-ce pas ? Quoi, l’unique façon ? Et où est ma liberté de prescrire s’exclament la plupart des médecins, tandis que les chimistes, les physiciens, les astronomes, observent et se plient aux lois de la nature.

Tous ces sujets, nous les avons abordés depuis 1996 avec Planète Homéo. Nos lecteurs fidèles nous lisent à raison d’un peu moins de mille visites par jour en provenance de toute la surface du globe.

Mais il fallait encore nous adapter pour toucher un plus large public grâce aux puissants moyens actuels que nous donne la vidéo sur les écrans de nos ordinateurs. Cette mutation a demandé beaucoup de temps, de travail, et de sacrifices financiers. Mais nous sommes bientôt prêts.

Dans ce but nous n'avons pas lésiné sur les moyens puisque c'est une véritable régie vidéo que nous nous sommes offerts, avec bien entendu la possibilité de diffuser des émissions en live ou en différé.

Voilà donc la voie que nous nous sommes tracés et nous espérons que vous apprécierez ce nouveau site à partir de la rentrée.

Aucun vaccin n’a jamais bénéficié d’une publicité aussi envahissante et indécente que le Gardasil. Il y a eu, certes, le scandale du vaccin de masse antihépatite B qui, de son temps, a révolté une grande partie des médecins français, mais la campagne s’était limitée à l’Hexagone, aucun de nos voisins européens, ni même les Américains, n’avaient adhéré à cette vague de folie.

Le Gardasil est l’exemple même de l’agressivité mensongère de certains laboratoires. Merck, fabricant du vaccin, a financé une campagne de promotion intolérable à travers le monde, avec l’aide de lobbyistes professionnels. Aux Etats-Unis, ils ont obtenu que 80 % des Etats exigent ce vaccin pour l’entrée à l’école, encouragent la vaccination dans les campus universitaires, et que les services de l’Immigration imposent à toute jeune fille ou femme de 11 à 26 ans, immigrée, d’apporter la preuve de sa vaccination si elle est candidate à la résidence permanente aux Etats-Unis.

Dès le 2 février 2007, le laboratoire a trouvé un complice de choix dans le déni de démocratie. Rick Perry, gouverneur républicain du Texas, avait donné l’ordre de vacciner toutes les jeunes filles de plus de 11 ans dans son Etat, au mépris des lois du Texas, des droits et de l’autorité parentale, et de l’éthique qui concerne une maladie uniquement transmissible par le sexe. Fort heureusement, ce politicien véreux a été attaqué par ses propres partisans, désavoué par les officiers fédéraux et a dû abandonner ce projet.

Il est à craindre que cette tyrannie médicale qui s’est manifestée au Texas ne soit que le début d’une bataille monumentale entre les droits des citoyens et le contrôle des gouvernements.

Un échec à tout point de vue

Toutefois, après un départ fulgurant et en dépit de ses efforts et de la complicité des officiers fédéraux des Etats-Unis ou des pouvoirs publics européens, malgré des budgets considérables consacrés à la publicité, malgré le lavage de cerveau infligé à la population, le laboratoire Merck n’a pas réussi à imposer son vaccin Gardasil à toutes lesfillesde9à26ans,loindelà.Ilenaétédemêmeau Canada et en Europe où ce vaccin, critiqué de toutes parts et qui a subi des moratoires dans de très nombreux pays, est bien moins porteur de bénéfices que ne l’espéraient les laboratoires. Il fallait donc le rentabiliser à tout prix.

C’est ainsi qu’au lieu d’utiliser des arguments scientifiques irrecevables, ou une publicité éhontée qui a choqué praticiens et patients, le laboratoire a trouvé un moyen plus subtil, mais peut-être plus efficace : convaincre les spectateurs de cinéma. Aussi, le laboratoire a-t-il lancé une grande campagne publicitaire durant tout le mois de juin 2008, dans 26 cinémas à travers les Etats-Unis. Elle a débuté avec le film Sex and the City, que tout le monde

avait pu voir à la télévision en série, mais qui arrivait alors sur le grand écran.

Avant d’avoir le droit de regarder le film, les spectateurs étaient forcés de subir une avalanche d’informations biaisées.

La campagne s’adressait aux femmes de 19 à 26 ans, mais Merck espérait toucher aussi un public plus jeune et, pré- parant l’avenir, il n’a pas caché qu’il comptait également tester son vaccin sur les garçons et les jeunes hommes qui peuvent être porteurs du virus HPV. Ainsi, le vaccin Gardasil a pu se vendre au cinéma comme les sodas et les pop-corn. Ensuite, de la même manière, on a distribué aux candidates au vaccin des bons d’achats pour des vêtements et autres avantages en nature.

Il en a été de même au Royaume-Uni où, le 16 février 2010, le Mail on line nous apprenait que les filles âgées de 16 à 18 ans empocheraient un bon de 45 livres si elles acceptaient de recevoir les trois injections du vaccin, le consentement des parents n’étant pas nécessaire.

Le même scandale a touché la Belgique.

En France, nous n’en sommes pas encore là, mais nos moyens publicitaires sont tout aussi contestables. Ainsi, en automne 2008, alors que l’Institut Pasteur était à l’honneur, on pouvait entendre sur toutes les ondes que leur dernière “découverte” était le “vaccin contre le cancer du col de l’utérus”, ce qui est un énorme mensonge car, outre le fait que l’Institut Pasteur n’est pas le découvreur du vaccin mais seulement son distributeur, il n’existe aucun vaccin contre les cancers. Mais cette annonce très racoleuse fut répétée tout au long de cette journée, et elle l’est encore par certains, ce qui prouve que les laboratoires ont bien raison de mentir puisque tout le monde les croit.

Sur la plupart des sites Internet concernant le Gardasil et le Cervarix, on retrouve sans cesse l’insupportable affirmation qu’il s’agit de vaccins “contre le cancer du col de l’utérus”, quand ce n’est pas “le cancer” sans autre précision. Pourtant, l’Institut national du cancer des Etats-Unis estime que la relation directe entre le virus et le cancer n’est pas du tout prouvée, d’autant que le cancer est en général observé seulement vingt à cinquante ans après l’infection.

Quant au GRSP (Groupement régional de santé publique d’Aquitaine), il a osé diffuser sur le Web une chanson “rap” qui répandait la peur et conseillait d’aller se faire vacciner. Comment ose-t-on encore qualifier ce commerce de “santé publique” et comment les patients peuvent-ils encore avoir confiance en l’industrie pharmaceutique qui agit comme un vulgaire marchand de tapis ?

La complicité de certains politiques

Chez nous également, les hommes politiques sont loin d’être blancs comme neige. L’ancien ministre de la Santé, Xavier Bertrand, a tout fait pour aider la promotion de ce vaccin qui a obtenu son AMM à une vitesse accélérée, soit en neuf mois, à la surprise des spécialistes. Avant de quitter le ministère de la Santé, et deux mois avant que la commission de la HAS (Haute autorité de santé publique) ne rende son avis, il a annoncé à l’Assemblée nationale que le vaccin Gardasil serait remboursé à 65 % avant la fin du 1er semestre, car il ne voulait pas perdre de temps et attendre l’avis de la HAS, considérant ce vaccin comme une “avancée majeure de santé publique”. Le ministre ayant déjà annoncé son remboursement, la Haute Autorité de santé n’avait pas le choix et ne pouvait que rendre, elle aussi, un avis favorable sur ce vaccin, tout en admettant qu’en l’état actuel du dossier son efficacité au-delà de cinq ans n’était pas établie. Pourquoi notre ministre était-il si pressé ?

Il est certain que le chiffre d’affaires qui en a découlé représente une belle rente pour Merck et Sanofi-Aventis car 370 000 Françaises sont en âge d’être vaccinées chaque année.

Dans tous les pays, le Gardasil a provoqué de très nombreuses attaques du corps médical, excepté en France, où nous persistons à toujours appliquer la même tactique dépourvue de tout esprit critique : accepter les ordres des laboratoires, inciter à une consommation massive, prescrire à tout va, et toujours dans l’impunité totale.

Malgré ces efforts, Merck a vu son chiffre d’affaires rétrécir comme une peau de chagrin. Il fallait donc trou- ver encore une autre solution, puisque les précédentes n’avaient pas été aussi rentables que l’espérait le laboratoire. En vérité, cela fait longtemps qu’il l’avait imaginée mais, devant la déconfiture actuelle, Merck a mis les bouchées doubles.

A présent, aux Etats-Unis, un comité consultatif d’experts américains vient de recommander la vaccination des jeunes garçons à partir de 11 ou 12 ans contre les papillomavirus humains (HPV) sous le prétexte qu’il est “transmis sexuellement” et qu’il est donc “responsables de maladies vénériennes dont des cancers”. C’est ainsi que le cancer devient une maladie vénérienne.

Les recommandations du comité doivent encore être approuvées par les Centres fédéraux de contrôle et de prévention des maladies (CDC), mais il est certain qu’ils vont les entériner, alléguant que cette vaccination avec trois doses, déjà approuvée pour les jeunes filles par les CDC, permettra de protéger les garçons contre certaines infections sexuellement transmissibles, comme l’apparition de verrues génitales, ainsi que contre certains cancers. “Celles-ci sont fréquentes et peuvent survenir à des âges précoces. Leur fréquence est en augmentation”, a souligné le communiqué de Sanofi-Pasteur MSD qui reprenait l’information et qui a ajouté que le “Gardasil a été reconnu efficace pour la prévention des lésions précancéreusesanales liées au HPV”, alors que la preuve n’a jamais été établie.

Cette vaccination des garçons va permettre de récupérer les 50 % de diminution de candidates au vaccin qui ont enfin compris que ce dernier n’était pas dépourvu de risques. En effet, ses effets secondaires officiellement recensés se montent à plus de 15 000 et les décès à près de 50, selon le Vaers. Si nous prenons en compte qu’il est admis que seulement 1 à 10 % des accidents ou décès lui sont déclarés, nous pouvons penser que les accidents s’élèvent au minimum à 150 000 et les décès à 500. Certains pensent même que ces chiffres sont encore trop bas par rapport à la réalité, et les effets à long terme ne sont pas encore apparus.

Pour nous résumer, commercialisé par Sanofi-Pasteur MSD, le Gardasil est fabriqué par Merck, qui a été condamné pour mensonge aggravé au sujet du Vioxx, lequel a bénéficié d’une publicité identique à celle du Gardasil avant d’être retiré du marché à cause des 160 000 accidents dont 55 000 décès qu’il a générés sur le seul territoire des Etats-Unis. Le laboratoire a déjà payé 4,85 milliards de dollars pour les milliers de procès concernant le Vioxx sans jamais avoir accepté de reconnaître sa culpabilité. A présent, il doit faire face aux procès intentés en Australie et qui sont légion.

Comment peut-on croire les déclarations d’un laboratoire déjà condamné pour avoir menti, lorsqu’il récidive au sujet du Gardasil et qu’il s’agit de la santé des générations futures ? A quand le retrait du Gardasil alors qu’on cherche à l’imposer aux garçons ? Combien faudra-t-il de morts avant qu’il soit retiré du marché ? Les pouvoirs publics portent une lourde responsabilité en la matière. Sauront-ils l’assumer avant que le scandale éclate ? Eux seuls peuvent répondre.

Bonne année à tous

La fin d'année marque le moment des bilans et des perspectives, nous ne romprons pas avec la tradition cette année qui promet d'être particulière si l'on en juge l'angoisse palpable de la plupart de nos patients.

J'ai même dû réconforter l'un d'entre eux dont la fille est persuadée que ce sera la fin du monde. "Non Madame, ce ne sera probablement pas la fin du monde, tout au plus la fin de ce monde. Vous continuerez à payer vos impôts." On se croirait revenu à la bonne époque des Paco Rabane et consorts qui nous prévoyaient l'effondrement de la planète et tout le toutim.

Personne ne doute cependant que de grandes transformations vont avoir lieu, sous l'impulsion du cataclysme économique imminent. Il n'y a pas de grandes difficultés à prédire le décès d'un géant et d'un gamin et la croissance d'un nain. Je veux parler respectivement du dollar, de l'euro et de l'or.

Quel rapport avec l'homéopathie? Justement, cette perspective est essentielle. Toute la médecine classique est devenue en cent ans, sous l'impulsion de Rockefeller Junior et de son empire pétrolier, un immense marché entièrement dépendant des flux de capitaux infusés par la finance mondiale.

Un effondrement économique signera certainement de graves difficultés pour les grands labos, affectueusement surnommés "Big Pharma", et qui exercent une dictature chimique sur l'ensemble de la médecine et de l'agriculture.

C'est ce moment que nous autres attendons pour secouer ce joug et sortir des catacombes. Beaucoup de bonnes volontés convergent enfin vers cette prise de conscience. Voici qu'écrit le Dr. Irène Fachon, dans le magasine Femina, après son combat pour révéler les effets du Médiator:

"Je me suis heurtée, à la compromission du monde médical, à  la trahison des clercs et des politiques, qui n’ont pas su protéger la population. Cette machination diabolique m’a épouvantée. Ayant appris à distinguer le bien et le mal, je devais réagir. Beaucoup de gens se sont engagés avec moi, pris de vertige devant cet empoisonnement sciemment accompli et dissimulé"

Plus que jamais nous allons avoir besoin de beaucoup d'homéopathes pour faire face notamment aux épidémies futures qui promettent d'être redoutables au vu des conditions sociales et des germes multi résistants, fruits de cent ans d'épandage allopathique.

Quand je dis homéopathes, je veux désigner des personnes compétentes, pas des distributeurs de granules comme on en voit à foison contribuer tous les jours à nous ridiculiser par des prescriptions grotesques et délirantes.

Nous avons donc un immense besoin de former ces futures cohortes destinées à sauver des vies, et non pas à élucubrer des théories fantomatiques sur l'origine de la vie ou des maladies.

C'est sur le terrain, en première ligne, que l'on doit juger l'homéopathie.

Nous avons pu nous mesurer au choléra en Haïti, et montrer que cette affection qui rive ses victimes au lit en train de vomir et d'avoir la diarrhée durant une semaine peut être abrégée à une durée de 6 à 12 heures pour les plus faibles.

Mon séjour à Madagascar a été plus que satisfaisant. Sous la férule de mes vieux complices, les Drs. Mamy Ralaitafika, Nary Rakotoniaina et Solofo Rajaosafara, l'équipe s'est énormément élargie en six ans. Le secret de cette réussite? La stricte application des principes clés de l'homéopathie:

-Individualisation

-Médicament unique

-Dose dynamisée

-Quantité minimale.

Chaque cas magnifiquement réussi attire de nouveaux patients dégoutés de la médecine classique ou de toute façon qui n'en n'ont pas les moyens. Seul le soutien populaire explique la survie et le développement de l'homéopathie désormais fermement implantée à Madagascar depuis que Homéopathes Sans Frontières l'a introduite là bas. Il va sans dire que nous nous sommes rapprochés étroitement de cette dernière association qui effectue un magnifique travail sous la présidence du Dr. Fréderic Rérolle.

A cause de l'urgence de la situation, nous travaillons sans répit depuis des mois à l'amélioration de Planète Homéo qui va se transformer en une grande plate forme dédiée à la formation et l'information aussi bien des professionnels que des "laïcs" désireux d'aider leur entourage. Encore quelques petits mois d'efforts et vous verrez ce dont je veux parler, notamment le forum, la vidéo interactive, les conférences, etc.

Je vous salue depuis Madagascar où je termine mon séjour de formation auprès de mes amis. En 6 ans, sous l'impulsion des Dr. Mamy, Nary, et Solofo, la petite équipe de passionnés que j'avais aidée à se former est devenue un groupe de presque 30 médecins, compétents, sérieux et travailleurs.  Voici l'exemple des personnes de bonne volonté. Placés devant les résultats souvent magnifiques et rapides, ils ne peuvent faire autrement que d'étudier l'homéopathie. En ce sens je pense que l'homéopathie nous appelle. Combien différente est l'attitude des critiques idéologiques de l'homéopathie. C'est ce que souligne ici le Dr. Francis Déprez, à travers un texte brillant qui mérite sa place ici. Merci Francis! E. Les chiens aboient, la caravane passe!

Tel un zoziau perché sur une branche, le Dr Pat s’égosille. Un canari aphone lui est resté en travers de la gorge. Comme tout bon scientiste, le Dr Pat sait tout, il connaît tout, il a raison sur tout. Il se moque d’Hippocrate et de Hahnemann, car il sait que lui seul, le Dr Pat, restera dans l’Histoire de la médecine. Sous prétexte de débat « scientifique », il n’hésite pas à recourir à l’insulte. Mais quand je ris de ses inepties scientistes, il se fâche.

Le Dr P. fait partie d’une association de vulgarisation « scientifique » qui exerce son « scepticisme » unilatéral à l’encontre de toutes les mauvaises choses : les croyances religieuses, l’acuponcture, l’homéopathie, la psychanalyse, l’auriculothérapie, le thermalisme, les énergies non polluantes, l’écologie, l’agriculture biologique, etc. Inversement, et sans aucun scepticisme, ladite association défend toutes les bonnes causes : la science, la médecine chimique, les vaccins, l’énergie nucléaire, l’agriculture chimique, les pesticides, les OGM, entre autres. Elle défend aussi le libéralisme économique, ceci expliquant sans doute cela. Car tout ce qui est bon pour les affaires est bon pour la santé, et ne peut être bon pour la santé que ce qui favorise les affaires. Cette association de zoziaux « zététiques » sent tellement la fosse septique bouchée, que l’un de ses principaux responsables en a démissionné. Il s’agit d’un rhumatologue, le Pr Marcel-Francis Kahn, pourtant un ennemi juré de l’homéopathie. Il avait fini par s’apercevoir que des experts scientifiques de l’association refusaient de révéler leurs conflits d’intérêts. Ces cachotteries sont approuvées par le président de l’association. J’ai révélé cela sur Internet sous mon vrai nom, question de courage et de responsabilité. Cela m’a valu l’insigne honneur d’être mis au pilori sur un site de « sceptiques » particulièrement grotesque.

L’homéopathie, on ne sait pas comment ça marche, glapit le Dr P. Et alors ? Un certain nombre de médicaments chimiques non plus. Je faisais remarquer à un ORL qui venait de nous vanter le Tanganil° que le mode d’action de ce médicament était inconnu. Il m’a répondu qu’on le connaîtrait un jour. Et ça lui suffisait pour prescrire. Les « sceptiques » devraient se méfier des ORL. Et de tous les autres allopathes aussi, qui ont prescrit de l’aspirine pendant 150 ans sans connaître son mode d’action. Comme des homéopathes, ils disaient seulement  « ça marche ». Il n’est donc pas nécessaire de savoir comment ça marche pour que ça marche. Le Dr P. ignore que dans le Vidal figurent des médicaments allopathiques dont le mode d’action est inconnu.

Ce qui n’est pas démontré n’existe pas, bêtifie le Dr P. C’est faux. Des études très longues et très coûteuses ont été nécessaires, aux USA, pour démontrer que le soja était comestible ! Les peuples d’Asie qui en consommaient depuis des milliers d’années savaient déjà ça. Mais ils ne l’avaient pas démontré !  Hippocrate n’a pas eu besoin d’essais randomisés en double aveugle pour traiter efficacement les crises de goutte de ses patients avec le colchique. Il n’y a pas que la connaissance scientifique. L’empirisme, ça fonctionne aussi. Hippocrate, Hahnemann et Laennec, étaient des cliniciens empiriques. Laennec a inventé l’auscultation, encore en usage aujourd’hui chez tous les médecins. Hahnemann a systématisé le principe de similitude toujours utilisé par les médecins homéopathes.

« On ne trouve la manifestation (de la similitude) dans aucun autre domaine », s’étrangle le Dr P. Encore faux. Il suffit d’ouvrir le Vidal pour trouver des manifestations de la loi de similitude dans les notices de nombreux médicaments. Tous les anti-arythmiques peuvent provoquer des arythmies, les antimigraineux peuvent donner des migraines, le Valium° prescrit contre les convulsions peut provoquer des convulsions, etc.

« Vous prenez les symptômes, signes extérieurs et apparences pour seule vérité » déforme le Dr P. Attribuer aux autres des idées qu’ils n’ont pas, pour mieux les attaquer ensuite, c’est une technique éculée des gens de mauvaise foi. Pour un homéopathe, l’ensemble des symptômes n’est pas « La Vérité ». L’ensemble des symptômes, c’est une grille de lecture qui permet à l’homéopathe d’appliquer le principe de similitude. De chercher le médicament le plus semblable, celui qui, selon les cas, soulagera ou guérira le malade. Car si l’infection a bien lieu « par les mêmes voies et les mêmes mécanismes physico-chimiques », la réaction à l’infection est différente d’un individu à l’autre. Et ce sont ces différences qui permettent de choisir le traitement individualisé, selon la similitude.

« Ce n’est pas parce qu’untel ne présente pas de symptôme et ne ressent rien qu’il est indemne. » assène le Dr P. Là, on comprend que le Dr P. avait pour professeur à la Faculté le célèbre Dr Knock selon lequel « Les gens bien portants sont des malades qui s’ignorent. » Le Dr Knock avait d’ailleurs beaucoup d’élèves. Beaucoup de spécialistes soignent les pré-malades. Ainsi soignait-on la « préménopause », avant l’abandon de l’hormonothérapie substitutive cancérogène. Ainsi soigne-t-on encore les « préhypertendus », pour le plus grand plaisir des firmes pharmaceutiques.

« Comment expliquez-vous alors la résurgence actuelle (…) de la tuberculose, sinon par une baisse de la vigilance vaccinale ? » aboie le Dr P. Mauvaise pioche, mon vieux. Un numéro récent du très officiel Bulletin Epidémiologique Hebdomadaire annonce une baisse « paradoxale » (sic) du nombre de cas de tuberculoses depuis l’abandon de l’obligation du vaccin BCG en France. Les experts consultés ne pouvaient s’expliquer cette baisse « paradoxale » (resic). Mais ils en concluaient, sans rire, qu’il fallait continuer à vacciner ! Je vous jure que c’est vrai.

Comme quoi rien n’arrête le Progrès de la Vraie Science Médicale. Pour mémoire, rappelons quand même que la seule expérimentation de masse du BCG, effectuée par l’OMS sur plusieurs centaines de milliers d’enfants en Inde a prouvé l’inefficacité du vaccin. En fin d’étude, il y avait même davantage de tuberculeux chez les enfants vaccinés que chez ceux qui ne l’étaient pas.

La tuberculose est une maladie dont les causes socio-économiques sont établies. Au XIXe siècle, elle décimait les populations ouvrières de l’Europe. Qui travaillaient 12 heures par jour, femmes et enfants compris. Qui vivaient dans la promiscuité de greniers surchauffés en été, glacés en hiver, ou de caves plus tempérées mais humides toute l’année. Qui ne mangeaient pas à leur faim, se réfugiaient dans l’alcool, et n’avaient aucun système de protection sociale. La tuberculose a disparu progressivement en France avec l’amélioration des conditions de vie, de l’hygiène, et de la protection sociale.

Actuellement, en France, selon le Bulletin Epidémiologique Hebdomadaire, la tuberculose se développe surtout chez les personnes sans domicile fixe, et dans les populations les plus pauvres, souvent immigrées, des banlieues populaires. Mais le Dr P. ignore tout cela. Comme il ignore le succès rapide des traitements homéopathiques en cas de coqueluche ou de rougeole. Et les patients seront heureux d’avoir des homéopathes compétents quand émergeront prochainement des bactéries résistantes à tous les antibiotiques. Ou une espèce de virus mutant causant une forte mortalité, car il faut au moins un an pour que le vaccin, s’il existe, soit livré au public (Nous avons au moins appris ça avec la farce du virus H1N1).

J’avoue que si je découvrais une tuberculose miliaire pulmonaire, où une méningite bactérienne, j’enverrai le patient à l’hôpital sans hésiter. D’abord parce que je ne suis pas sûr de trouver le bon remède homéopathique, et là, la vie du malade est en jeu. De plus, comme souvent, se pose un problème médicolégal. Si je soignais homéopathiquement le malade et qu’il mourrait, je serais condamné. Alors que si le malade meurt à l’hôpital malgré un traitement antibiotique bien conduit, personne n’y trouve rien à redire. Mais je n’hésite pas à soigner, et à guérir, des maladies pour lesquelles la médecine officielle est peu efficace, ou toxique, comme des hépatites virales. Quant aux zonas, même ophtalmiques, qui ont traîné pendant des jours ou même des semaines malgré les antiviraux, les analgésiques, voire les antiépileptiques, ils sont guéris en un ou deux jours par l’homéopathie.

Moi aussi, je suis abonné à Prescrire. Globalement, j’y trouve des informations plus satisfaisantes que ce que l’on peut lire dans la « presse » médicale financée par les labos. Mais comme tout le monde, les rédacteurs de Prescrire ont des œillères. Les rédacteurs de Prescrire ne croient pas à l’homéopathie, mais ils croient aux vaccins. Pour Prescrire, l’homéopathie, qui n’a pas fait la preuve de son efficacité selon les normes actuelles, doit être rejetée. Mais les vaccins antipapillomavirus, qui n’ont aucune efficacité prouvée dans la prévention du cancer du col utérin, sont recommandés.

Prescrire a aussi refusé de publier les dossiers pourtant bien documentés du Dr Marc Girard sur les ravages causés par le vaccin contre l’hépatite B. Le Dr Girard révèle sur son site Internet comment le nombre de scléroses en plaque des enfants a été multiplié par 35 (trente-cinq) depuis le début de la vaccination en 1994 (Ce sont les statistiques de l’assurance maladie).

Impossible, répondent les experts (Ah, les experts !). L’enfant ne peut pas développer de sclérose en plaques quand on le vaccine en bas âge. Car les nerfs des jeunes enfants ne sont pas encore bien myélinisés. Un argument « scientifique » qui fait que les statistiques alarmantes de l’assurance maladie ne devraient pas exister. Mais un argument « scientifique » que des experts nous avaient déjà servi dans les décennies d’après-guerre. Pour nous expliquer que les enfants ne pouvaient pas ressentir la douleur, en raison de la non-myélinisation de leurs nerfs. Aussi incroyable que cela puisse paraître, il y a eu des médecins et des chirurgiens qui ont cru à ces sornettes « scientifiques ». Suffisamment pour que nombre de gosses soient opérés sans anesthésie. Oui, torturés au nom de la « Science ». Hurlant le ventre ouvert sur la table d’opération. Heureusement, la « Science » progresse.

En 1984, lors d’un congrès de pédopsychiatres à Nice, les « experts » ont reconnu ce que tout le monde savait empiriquement depuis longtemps : oui, les enfants peuvent souffrir. Ouf ! Curieusement, cette importante découverte ne nous a valu aucun prix Nobel. Comme le susurre le Dr P. : « Il n’y a qu’une seule médecine, celle qui est éclairée, efficace, évolutive, qui s’appuie sur les connaissances accumulées et convergentes de toutes les sciences. » Mais il est parfois préférable d’attendre que les connaissances accumulées convergent en marche arrière avant de faire opérer son bébé d’une appendicite.

Bien sûr que les progrès scientifiques peuvent être utiles. Aucun médecin ne peut rejeter les apports de la réanimation, les succès de la chirurgie (De préférence avec anesthésie), l’intérêt de l’imagerie médicale, les chimiothérapies substitutives (thyroxine, insuline, cortisone, etc.) quand les organes ne fonctionnent plus ou ont été enlevés. L’homéopathie qui suscite une réponse de l’organisme vivant ne peut ressusciter un mort ou relancer un organe absent. Ce n’est pas pour cela qu’il faut tout avaler des « données actuelles de la science ». Ces données peuvent provenir d’expériences bien faites, honnêtes, et apporter de nouvelles connaissances utiles. Les « données actuelles » peuvent aussi être tirées d’études inventées, qui arrivent même à être publiées dans revues internationales renommées. Elles peuvent être tirées d’études trafiquées par des experts intéressés aux résultats financiers de firmes industrielles.

Le VIH, le Dr Pat ne pourrait pas en parler si le Dr Luc Montagnier ne l’avait pas découvert. Lors d’un congrès en 2007 à Lugano, le Dr Montagnier a rendu hommage au Dr Jacques Benveniste et à ses travaux sur ce que les journalistes ont appelé « la mémoire de l’eau ». Le Dr Montagnier, sceptique au départ, mais aussi curieux comme doit l’être un scientifique, a validé les travaux du Dr Benveniste. Il bute sur des problèmes techniques très difficiles à résoudre. Mais il est certain qu’une substance très hautement diluée laisse un signal électromagnétique dans le solvant. Et que ce signal peut avoir une action biologique. Il a montré que ce signal était détruit par la chaleur. Ce qui confirme des expériences antérieures des laboratoires Boiron sur l’inactivation des médicaments homéopathiques. Et ce qui est déjà précisé par Hahnemann dans son Organon.

Si les travaux en cours du Dr Montagnier aboutissent, il pourra y avoir une explication scientifique à l’action des hautes et très hautes dilutions homéopathiques. Et le fait qu’il s’agit d’un signal électromagnétique anéantira l’objection des prétendus « sceptiques » qui rabâchent : « Y’a plus de molécules ! » Encore une chose, le Dr Montagnier a remarqué que pour que le signal passe, il devait le faire en entrant en résonance avec d’autres signaux composant « un bruit de fond » dans la solution. Ce qui répond à une autre objection des « sceptiques », qui disaient fort justement qu’en diluant-dynamisant un remède, nous diluions-dynamisions en même temps des impuretés. Peut-être le « bruit de fond » nécessaire. Si les études de Montagnier aboutissent, ce sera une grande satisfaction intellectuelle, mais cela ne changera probablement rien à notre pratique empirique basée sur la similitude. Nous resterons empiristes et cliniciens, pour notre grand plaisir et la satisfaction des patients de plus en plus nombreux qui se confient à nous.

On The Causes Of Professional Opposition To Homeopathy.

THERE was a Presidential Address delivered at the British Homoeopathic Congress, held at Liverpool, September 13th, 1877, by Alfred C. Pope, M.D., and this Address has been published in several professedly homoeopathic journals in the United States, without comment. This Address, coming close upon the heels of the proposed surrender of our School and our principles, and an appeal to be admitted into the Medical Societies of the Allopathic School, proffered ostensibly in the name of the Homoeopathists at large by a Dr. Wyld, attracts more attention than it would do otherwise. Dr. Wyld presumed to represent the Homoeopathic School; Dr. Pope is presumed to speak the sentiments of this School. Dr. Wyld's presumptions have been fully rebuked; and as his statements have found the Allopathists wide awake, were by them utilized, with the intention of bringing our School into disrepute, it was hoped that the colleagues of this man would embrace their first opportunity to set our side of the wide-spreading controversy right, show the utter falsity of his statements, and the folly of his overtures.

Dr. Pope has really not endorsed Dr. Wyld's statements; he has mildly censured him, and has attempted to show a better way to accomplish a reunion. Dr. Pope does not represent the Homoeopathic School, and, for this reason, we shall now prove, by his own words, that far from representing the sentiments held by a very large number of Homoeopathicians, he also has uttered assertions not in accord with the School he is presumed to represent. And were we to remain silent on these points, were we to allow this Address to go before the world without comment, such a course would indicate that he was endorsed, and his Address approved of, by Our School.

We are told, "neither has the separation which has occurred been willful on our part." We hold that the separation was "a necessity."

From the very moment that Hufeland closed the pages of the leading Allopathic journal, which he controlled, to the communications made by Hahnemann, from that moment the separation began. On the one side, we find a conscientious and scientific searcher after truth laying his discoveries humbly before his professional brethren; and, on the other side, we find an arrogant scientific man, who declined to listen. As it was then, so it is now. Did Hahnemann, or his earlier followers, shrink from the dangers to which oppressive laws exposed them? Certainly not; and, suffering from the application of these laws, they never spoke of, never desired, nor humbly asked for, a reunion. An arrogant School which allowed the pages of their journals to be closed to a colleague because he hoped to be able to correct errors, and show a better way to cure the sick, would willfully indulge in groping in the accustomed darkness, would shrink from the light offered them; and, for that reason, the two so widely differing set of men were, by necessity, for ever separated. A reunion can only be accomplished if the friends of darkness creep out of it and accept the light offered them, or if men who have a glimpse of light, moved by selfish and sordid motives, voluntarily slink back into the old darkness. Is a reunion possible on any other than these two suggested methods? Dr. Pope is opposed to a meek submission to an intolerant majority, and in this he expresses the temper of the School of Homoeopathy; he clearly shows the duty of all who believe in Homoeopathy and feel the professional opposition to Homœopathy. It was the duty of our School to make known, by book and pamphlet, what Homoeopathy was, and how Homoeopathy should (Dr. Pope says "might ") be practised; it was proper to establish Societies, Hospitals, Schools, and, finally, a Literature. Had this plain duty been fulfilled, had the Homoeopathists made known, by book and pamphlet, what Homoeopathy was, or, in other words, had they, by book and pamphlet, promulgated and explained the science of Homoeopathy, and how that science should be applied practically, showing how the Art of

Healing, relying on the science of it, must be practised; had they been true to themselves, the position they occupy in Old England would be a very different one from what they now complain of. The journals published in England this day have all, or almost all, the Homoeopathy they represent on the title-page; and when we find Dr. Pope openly caricaturing Homoeopathy, as we shall show presently, we may admire the ingenuity with which he applies the Law of Similars; first complaining that the Allopathists had caricatured Homoeopathy, he offers, as we suppose for curative purposes, another caricature of our Law of cure.

And he says : "Yes, we admit that we are homoeopathists. In so doing, we acknowledge that we regard the Law of Similars as the therapeutic principle which is best adapted for the selection of drugs to cure disease. We do not, however, assert that it is the only principle on which it is necessary for the physician to act in the treatment of every case that comes before him, or in every part of every case; neither do we deny that disease is ever cured by remedies prescribed on other principles."

Hahnemann, the father of our School, and to whom alone belonged the indisputable right to define the principles of that School, tells us, in his great textbook, the Organon, and there, in paragraph 54, he says, dwelling on the three modes of employing medicines in disease (the Homoeopathic, Allopathic, and Palliative), "that the Homoeopathic method alone leads in a direct way to a mild, certain, and permanent cure, without either injuring the patient or diminishing his strength." Even our Allopathic opponents have severely rebuked propositions of this kind, offered at times by professing Homoeopathists; and they truly say, that systems so diametrically opposed one to another, cannot be true, one in one case and another in another case; but one or other must apply, as Dr. P. has it, to "every part of every case." The above caricature must bring down on Homoeopathy the sarcasm, if not the contempt, of all thinking men. If the Law of Similars is a Law at all; if it is a principle to guide the physician's action in the treatment of disease; it must be true under all circumstances; if this Law or principle does not suffice to guide the physician's actions in all cases, then it is not a Law, at all, nor is it a principle; and if not true always, then Homoeopathy must, by logical inductions, be declared a snare, an illusion, and a farce. To strengthen his assertion, Dr. Pope says : "While it is undeniable that some of his (Hahnemann's) earliest followers, under the influence of that immense force of character which Hahnemann ever exhibited, did, in obedience to the stern demand he made upon them for unhesitating confidence in every theory he broached, accept as true much that investigation has since shown to be untenable hypothesis, it is equally true that it has been by others of his disciples that the fallacies into which he was betrayed were most completely exposed. We accept so much of Hahnemann's teachings as experience has proved to us to be sound, unhesitatingly rejecting whatever in it we have found erroneous."

The followers of Hahnemann, his earliest as well as his present followers, have accepted and do accept his teachings, and experience did and does prove that his teachings are sound. Hahnemann never offered a single hypothesis, never was betrayed into fallacies. He offered us infallible principles derived from his observations of natural laws; his development of principles are based on sound and incontrovertible logic; and while nobody ever claimed that he gave us a finished system of the Healing Art, his earliest and present followers claim that that system can only be truly developed by strictly adhering to the foundation laid by the Master, and that every step taken forward must be in harmony with his teachings. In the Healing Art, as in all other arts based on an established science, there will be men found who, apparently accepting the science, can not as successfully apply it in practice as do others. Dr. Pope seems to ignore the very large number of Homoeopathicians who, time and again up to the present day, testified that experience has proved to them the correctness of Hahnemann's teachings; and if their testimony has been corroborated by every observing Healer who has followed the teachings of Hahnemann, what does Dr. Pope's assertion amount to, that "there are others who unhesitatingly reject whatever in it they have found to be erroneous "It amounts just to this : there are men who deny the statements of others, who, true to their principles, claim superior successes, and have time and again illustrated their application of principles in practice successfully, and who judge the correctness of these infallible principles, which they designate as fallacious or untenable hypotheses, by their own failures to reach these results. Would it not be more consistent if these doubters would come to these, by them, ignored men, instead of offering to go back to the Allopathic Societies; and saying, with Dr. Pope, "We are ready and willing to co-operate with them (the Allopathists) in their efforts to promote the science and art of medicine; are anxious to learn from them, and discuss with them, the results of their observations; to communicate to them, and carefully examine the criticism they have to offer upon such conclusions as our experience may lead us to form?"

It would promote the true science and art of medicine (Homoeopathy) much more, if these doubters would seek to learn from the consistent followers of Hahnemann, to discuss with them calmly and liberally the results of their observations, and carefully offer their criticism of Hahnemann's writings, discuss the principles laid down in the Organon, and definitely state by what mode of investigation they find one or more untenable hypothesis offered in that logical work. The causes of the opposition to Homœopathy, as taught by Hahnemann, which are the same now as they ever have been—an almost total absence of any information of what is meant by Homoeopathy; absolute refusal to ascertain what is understood by it; an unrelenting determination to suppress, by every possible means, every opportunity presented of learning what it really is, and how it can be practically tested—could thereby easily be removed; erroneous conceptions of his teachings could best be corrected by such a course as we propose. The Allopathic Schools are gradually coming over to us; they teach more or less Homoeopathy in their Schools; and if we but show them an unbroken front; if we, by superior successes, such as secured to the earlier followers of Hahnemann the confidence of intelligent people, gain the confidence and support of the community, we shall promote the progress of Homoeopathy much better than by an unsuccessful attempt to obtain admission into their Societies.

Dr. Pope further tells us, "There is no finality in Homoeopathy. One of the most thorough-going homoeopathists has said, ‘The Law itself may be but a stepping-stone to a wider generalization, which shall one day embrace both it and something beside, and which shall make clear some things which we now see darkly.’ ” (Homœopathy, the Science of Therapeutics.)

We fully agree with Dr. Pope, that there is not, and never will be, a finality in Homoeopathy; the progress forwards can not be checked by the men who habitually progress backwards and desire a return to the Allopathic Societies. The one of a few of the objectionable sentences contained in the otherwise very admirably-written paper, "Homoeopathy, the Science of Therapeutics", has been singled out by Dr. Pope, to show that prospectively we may set aside things we at present do not see clear, but darkly; that, if such clear-sightedness has been granted us, we may indulge in a wider generalization. As Homoeopathicians, we are bound to individualize; therefore the sentence in itself, even were it otherwise applicable under the prospective conditions at present, is not in harmony with our progressive School, not in harmony with Hahnemann's teachings, not in harmony with the general tone of the papers it has been selected from. The fact is, the more we develop Homoeopathy, in the same ratio as our knowledge of it increases, the more will we individualize in every individual case. Progressive individualization leads us forward, helps us to develop the Healing Art; generalization leads no science forward—the least of all the Science of Medicine; and as for our Healing Art, its course would be but backward.

The causes of professional opposition to Homoeopathy will, to our thinking, continue till we, as a School, conquer, overcome, and annihilate the opposition by our superior successes. And how can we obtain these successes? Surely, in no other way and by no other means than by those used by Hahnemann, who generously and without hesitation showed us his way to obtain successes. Can any one by any sophistry claim to be able to obtain better successes in any other manner?

It seems that any such propositions as are here offered will be regarded as a display of an intolerant spirit. There seems to be no end to the apparently ingenious propositions to make our School more palatable to the Allopathists; to divest it of all progressiveness, -and, if possible, of the advocates of progress, and, attired in the Pathological livery,[1] to plead that Hahnemann has been found allowing the existence of certain specific diseases, always essentially identical, for which fixed remedies can be ascertained; and that, therefore, it may be hoped that the advance of knowledge has identified many more of the same kind. (Monthly Homeopathic Review, 1877, p. 673.) We boldly and earnestly contradict all such frivolous propositions, which are contrary to well-known facts. Whenever Hahnemann used pathological terms for diseases, they were invariably modified by conditions, such as he used in his preface to Aconite, and there and then gave the characteristic symptoms of this valuable remedy—characteristic symptoms NOT TO BE FOUND in the modernized Materia Medica, now perverted into "Pharmaco-dynamics." We are not aware that Hahnemann ever spoke of certain specific diseases, always essentially identical, for which fixed remedies can be ascertained. The Organon contains no such propositions; the very first paragraph of this text-book of the Healing Art plainly and explicitly rejects the hypothesis of specific diseases, and throughout the whole work, nothing of the kind can be found; the very hypothesis of specific diseases being continually deprecated.

We are further told (Monthly Homeopathic Review, p. 674), "Our best hope of winning converts to our system from the Old School, and, which is still better, of obtaining its recognition from the profession as a legitimate therapeutic method, lies in the existence of the less distinctive homoeopathy I have described." The causes of professional opposition to Homoeopathy, we are told, would be best removed by presenting to the profession a less distinctive Homoeopathy than was presented to them by Hahnemann, and is now presented to them by his faithful followers. A less distinctive Homoeopathy ! What is it? It is a perfect caricature, presented to the profession by men who were permitted to sport the honorable name of Homoeopathists, who were permitted to write in journals, even permitted to become members of homoeopathic societies, and to work in homoeopathic hospitals and dispensaries, under the erroneous belief that perfect liberty would the sooner bring them to accept the stricter method we all desired. It is this very. "less distinctive Homoeopathy", this very caricature, which prevents us from winning converts to our system from the Old School. The better Allopathic physicians, utterly dissatisfied with their therapeutics, read the Organon, and would, in most cases, be willing to try the experiment, if they did not find a large number of professing Homœopathists guilty of gross inconsistency, not adhering to the principles set forth in the Organon, but boldly resorting to auxiliaries, such as Palliatives habitually administered by the Old School, mixing and alternating drugs, and sending for their medicines to the ordinary pharmacies, even ordering larger doses than the boldest Allopathists prescribe; that is the less distinctive Homoeopathy spoken of, a caricature not even resembling any Homoeopathy ever taught by the founder of the School; and when the attention of the Allopathist, who has read the Organon, and is prevented from trying the experiment by finding professing practitioners of our School guilty of gross inconsistency; when his attention is called to the fact that there are also a goodly number of consistent practitioners among the Homoeopathists, he shrugs his shoulders, turns on his heels, and exclaims that they must be all alike, as they belong to the same distinctive medical societies, and that he does not think it worth while to try the experiment. Such is the order of the day; but IF suc1, a man does try the experiment, as a few exceptionally independent men have done, do they try the less distinctive Homœopathy'? No ! They have followed Hahnemann, and see what developments have taken place in later years; "they read the narratives of cures wrought by medicines selected because of minute symptomatic resemblance, and given in highly attenuated doses."— (Monthly Homoeopathic Review, p. 674.) They then try the experiment, not first trying to find out whether Hahnemann was right in 1806, or in 1833 when he published the fifth edition of the Organon, or in 1839 when he published the fifth vol. of the Chronic Diseases; nay, they begin just where his true followers were, by him, found fearlessly developing the Healing Art in harmony with his early teachings; and this experiment does win converts from the Old School.

The less distinctive Homoeopathy is "No Homoeopathy at all." But it may be something better, and if it is so, then the results must show it. The friends of this newer School decline to accept a "Higher Homoeopathy "; they certainly take a new departure in a new direction, with the intent to fall in with the Old School somewhere and somehow; may they be happy. But accepting a Higher Homoeopathy, and believing in the progressiveness of Hahnemann's teachings, we shall try and overcome the professional opposition to Homoeopathy by fidelity to principles and increasingly good results in the treatment of the sick. If the appeal to the profession fails,' we shall follow the Master, and appeal to the parties most interested in, and benefited by, a progress of the Healing Art—THE PEOPLE.

1878, July, August.— Dr. J. C. Burnett quotes a case of rheumatic fever where large doses of Salicylic Acid, prescribed by an Allopath, caused sudden violent pain in epigastrium and sudden death. If this should ever occur in the practice of a "physician practising Homoeopathy", which is very likely from all we read, we beg in anticipation to disclaim such treatment. Dr. S. H. Blake utilizes the fact recorded in the Lancet, 1877, Oct. 27th, that this Acid and Salicin caused necrosis of the bones of legs and forearm, and gives Salicylic Acid 1X in a case of chronic caries of foot, with benefit. We hope that no "generalization" will follow this announcement; it will

only cure those cases to which it is homœopathic by virtue of the correspondence of the totality of the symptoms.

The August number commences with an editorial reply to Dr. Ross's paper in the Practitioner, "Are there Laws of Therapeutics?" the avowed object of which is to correct Dr. R.'s errors with regard to Homoeopathy. Yet some of his errors, so far from being refuted, are really confirmed. Dr. Ross objects to HAHNEMANN'S theory as to the action of the Homoeopathic remedy; and the editors regret this theory also. How long will both avowed friend and avowed foe run their heads against HAHNEMANN'S theories? The latter attack him on account of them; the former apologize for them, as for something of which they are ashamed.

When will they both read and understand his Organon, and find (section 28) that he gave this theory merely as "the most probable view", and after all one which "matters little?" So little indeed, that afterwards, in his Chronic Diseases, he gave a different theory. What do his theories matter if we have known his facts to be genuine? Either of these theories may be true, or both may be untrue; personally, we have a very different one of our own, which may also be true or false, but our practice is nevertheless modeled on that of HAHNEMANN, and is not affected by theories.

Again, why object to HAHNEMANN'S "theory of dynamization?" The fact is admitted by the editors that potencies often cure where the crude drug fails; this is dynamization, or development of curative power. HAHNEMANN'S statement of dynamization by dilution and succussion is not a theory, but a fact established by experience; a difference of opinion as to how curative power is thus developed would not destroy belief in the fact; nay, it would presuppose the fact. The same remark applies to what they call his "psora theory." Dr. Ross avows his belief that "one or two of the principles lying at the foundation of this system are substantially true. These principles are what may be briefly termed the local action of medicines, or the elective affinities of the tissues, the double action of medicines, and the opposite effects of large and small doses." To this the editors respond,

"This passage when expanded reads as follows :—

(1) Every drug has an elective affinity for certain organs or tissues, and shows its effects uniformly in connection with these organs or tissues.

(2) One drug differs in action from another, in as far at least as is manifest to our observation, in the symptoms produced on its elective organ or tissue.

(3) Medicines have two actions which are opposite to one another, and these two are the result of the administration of large and small doses respectively. When these principles are carried into practice, it is

(4) by giving small doses to counteract symptoms of disease which correspond to the symptoms produced by large doses of the same drug.

This is homoeopathy pure and simple."

According to this view, then, Dr. Ross, like M. Jourdain, who had talked prose all his life without knowing it, has been practising Homoeopathy in blissful ignorance of the fact. But, in our opinion, neither statement represents the true teachings of HAHNEMANN. Let us analyze these four propositions.

(1)This proposition is merely Rademacher's idea, which was afterwards rehashed under the name of Organopathy. A reference to the provings is sufficient to refute it. It is true that many drugs have a more marked action on certain organs and tissues than on others, but so far as we can diagnose the organ affected, all well-proved medicines are found to act on every organ or tissue; and everyone who has superintended provings of a drug on several persons knows that the effect is not "uniform."

(2.) This proposition is, of course, true.

(3) This is true also, but necessarily applies to a very limited class of symptoms, i.e., those which have an opposite.

(4) This is an imperfect statement, because many of our provings (the best, in fact,) are made with very small doses, and we find that small doses cure symptoms which equally small doses are capable of producing. Dr. Murray Moore gives a proving of the Oreodaphne Californica. Dr. M. took five drops of tincture, which caused confusion in head. After six hours he took ten drops, which caused dizziness, worse on stooping or moving about, followed by a dull pressive fronto-occipital headache, which passed off during the night's rest. Olfaction of this tincture caused a similar more intense headache. On others, olfaction caused, almost invariably, an intense aching, with pressure at inner angle of orbit, right or left, generally the latter, but never in both simultaneously, extending through brain, and across scalp to base of occiput; it lasted from one-half to seven hours, worse from light, noise, or moving, and better for closing eyes and by perfect quiet.

Rumex Crispus In Cough.

ON Dec. 10th, I caught cold from exposure to the cold early morning air. Took Acon., and afterwards Bry., according to the symptoms, with relief. The night after Dec. 13th the cough was troublesome, but I did not notice the symptoms, and took no medicine. The next night, about 11 p.m., I had cough when lying on left side. I fell asleep, and awoke between 1 and 2 a.m. with cough in any position; it made the chest feel bruised, and seemed as if it did not reach low enough down to raise the phlegm, and when it did loosen it, it caused soreness of chest. I rose, went down stairs, opened my Repertory, and found that Rumex was best indicated by the italicised symptoms, and took a dose of 200 (Dr. Lillie's preparation) at 1.35 a.m. I returned to bed, and was able to lie on the left side without cough; hardly coughed the whole night; almost well next day, and the following night had no cough.

Digitalis In Post-Scarlatinal Dropsy.

A BOY had scarlatina. On the twelfth and thirteenth days from the appearance of the rash he had swelling of right hand and fingers, with scanty high-coloured urine. Digitalis Cm (Fincke) every four hours for four doses. Next day hand nearly well; urine freer and paler. Recovered. Forty-one remedies are given by Bönninghausen and Jahr under "Swelling of hands." This list does not include Cactus or other recently-proved remedies. Neither the swelling nor the high-coloured scanty urine is diagnostic of any one remedy, being found under many. Shall we theorize pathologically, and argue that as the kidneys were the source of the mischief, we must direct our efforts to the establishment of their secretion? If so, what shall we give? Shall it be Digit., or Apis., or Terebinth.? All, and many more, act on the kidneys.

No; the homoeopathic physician takes note of apparently insignificant symptoms, which to the pathologist are of no value, because he cannot explain them. In this case the right hand and fingers were swollen. This symptom is of no importance to the pathologist; what does it matter to him whether the right hand or the left is swollen in post-scarlatinal dropsy? The homoeopathic physician, however, finds out that only five of the above forty-one have "swelling of right hand"; Digit., Hepar., Lycop., Natr-mur., and Phosph.; and of these only Digit. has in the same symptom "swelling of right hand and fingers" — another peculiarity unexplainable by the pathologist. Phosph. has indeed swelling of right index finger as well as the hand, but here the swelling becomes black and gangrenous, which is a contra-indication. Merc.-sol. has swelling of left hand; and Cactus., edema of both hands, worse in the left.

The Key-Note System.

[We have taken the liberty of reprinting the following admirable paper from the pen of our friend Dr. Guernsey, because, in the first place, we think that the "key-note", as a system of simplifying the selection of the remedy, stands unequalled; and in its Hahnemannian excellence, it is simply unrivalled. Secondly, we reproduce it, because, in Great Britain at least, we seem to be utterly ignorant of its worth and true merit, and because we are constantly being asked regarding it, if we "see anything in it?"

Our reply is, "but for characteristics or key-notes in practice, we could never succeed as we do, they are simply invaluable; and if Homoeopathy is ever to stamp-out Allopathy and reign supreme, it can only be by every one of us mastering the pathogenetic and clinical characteristic symptoms of our medicines, which, in other respects, is the 'key-note system' of Professor Guernsey, " who shall now speak for himself. We shall only add, that we hope soon to be able to publish a new Characteristic Materia Medica as an Appendix to The Organon. In this great work we have been promised the able and kind assistance of our valued friend Dr. Simmons, of Cheltenham, who informs us, by letter, that he has suffered from "characteristics on the brain for the last ten years."—EDITOR]

In view of the fact that numerous inquiries have been made of me regarding the principle of Homoeopathic practice attempted to be expressed in the term "key-note system", and as much attention has been attracted to the subject recently, in journals and otherwise, I have deemed it eminently proper to place before the members of our Society, a correct exposition, as far as I am able to make it, of the scope and utility of the method expressed by that term, as a part of practical Homoeopathy.

The term "key-note" is not to be regarded as in itself definitive, nor did I, in first using it, wish or intend it to be taken as a piece of scientific nomenclature. It occurred to me as being in a very great degree expressive of a fact in medicine, and as such alone is it to be accepted. The term "key-note" is therefore suggestive, and merely provisional; to be continued in use only until its scientific successor is duly chosen and qualified by general acceptance.

But while it is true that the term is nothing more than an illustration, an analogue and a hint, its immense significance is not thereby diminished. It is still the expression of a fact, a truth, central and fundamental; the knowledge of which, in Homoeopathic theory and practice, is necessary to the full and complete comprehension and the most extended use of the law of the similars.

The key-note, in music, is defined to be "the fundamental note or tone to which the whole piece is accommodated;" and the

key-note of music finds, by analogy—through which things most remote and unlike superficially are connected in the closest relationship—its likeness everywhere. The key-note of Religion is God's existence. By it every one of the innumerable theologic tones, however apparently discordant, are harmonized. Gravitation is the key-note of the order that governs the myriad spheres that plough their way through space. Progress is the key-note to which the wonderful political, social and industrial movements of the day are attuned. The key-note of the Church—is faith; of the true household—love.

Thus has been given suggestively, and perhaps with sufficient clearness, the meaning, force and true application of the term as I have used it in medicine, and with the feeling that suggestion is often more lucid than direct expression, I hesitate to give a more exact definition.

When a man tells us he is "out of tune", or when a medical author speaks of depressed or improved "tone", or want of "tone" of the system, we scarcely require an explanation of the meaning of the terms thus used, and more is conveyed to the minds, perhaps, than could be made clear by a laborious attempt to express in other words the same thing. It is thus with the term "key-note." It is intended to be expressive of a truth that could not be expressed in any shorter or more compact sentence; and as conveying or rather suggesting to the mind the whole truth itself.

A casual observer, viewing the fair field of our Materia Medics, would say that the flowers are all alike; so similar and so common as to be utterly valueless; and, indeed, without the principle involved in the term I have used, this would appear to be the truth. In Materia Medica and in Pathology we have before us, vast heaps of apparently inharmonious, confused and unrelated facts, and these continually accumulating, with the prospect that the higher faculties—upon the unencumbered and vigorous action of which depends all real achievement—would eventually become hopelessly bewildered, were it not that the guiding principle, the one fundamental characterizing power, the key-note, in fact, is struck, and every tone and feature and expression is attuned to it and by it, modulated and harmonized.

The "key-note system" is not only applicable to the array of symptoms constituting the pathogenesis of our Materia Medica, but as well to the array of symptoms and conditions constituting disease. In pathology, the term pathognomonic symptom is intended to express, in very many instances, what might be termed the key-note of a given disease, and yet while this is true so far as it goes, it does not go far enough to cover the whole ground; to embrace the whole category of diseases; or to mark the distinctive features that characterize one case of the same disease from another. Now the Homoeopathic physician does not profess to treat disease, per se, but rather patients; and thus from the very nature of things, even the erudite generalizing of the Allopathic School cannot be received by us.

Although the chief features of a disease are present and similar in all persons attacked by the malady, and even those symptoms which perhaps have furnished it with its name, yet we must all confess that we are able to detect some sign or symptom, some all-pervading condition, some characterizing circumstance that gives that case its individuality, and causes it to differ, if ever so slightly, from all other cases. Thus we may be said to have first—the expressions that evidence disease; then the special markings that distinguish classes and orders; the conditions or symptoms by which each class or order is subdivided and each subdivision furnished with a specific name; and finally, the characteristic features which serve to distinguish each case of the same disease from all other cases; as in the human family we find first the broad and ever-present features of the race; then the distinctive marks of nationality; then the peculiarities of family; and lastly, the lineaments, deeply or faintly traced, which characterize the individual.

This, now, is what we would call the key-note system, as carried into the study of disease. It is comparative pathology in its most extended sense. You are, perhaps, ready to tell me that this is nothing new. I am well aware of it. HAHNEMANN laid it down as distinctly as it was possible to give utterance to truth, and while it is not true simply because HAHNEMANN gave utterance to it, it is true because the experience of thousands

of Homoeopathists have confirmed it as the true system of diagnosis; the truly practical method of distinguishing between one case and another, or, in other words, of individualizing. Alas, that it should be so often lost sight of in the fascinating whirlpool of generalization.

Let us now turn to the store-house from whence is to be drawn the agencies that are to prove curative for these multifarious forms of disease, and see how the "key-note system" is to be applied there, and with what effect.

From the "provings" of aconite; from its numerous toxicological effects; and from the revelations of its scope furnished us by its use in diseases a vast tissue of symptoms might be accumulated, that it is not exaggeration to say would fill a large volume; and to these we might add the results of new provings, on different individuals, ad infinitum. How very many of these symptoms are very similar to, or apparently identical with, those produced through the provings of other drugs? Truly the flowers appear all alike. Yet there is something within that pathogenesis, indicative of aconite alone; embodying in expression its one characteristic, unfailing, predominant effect, which makes it to differ from all other drugs, and which pervades all its other effects with more or less predominance. This symptom or condition, these symptoms or conditions form the key-note or key-notes of aconite as a medicine, and furnishes the key to its indication in disease. Thus, in instituting comparisons between medicines, by taking all the symptoms and comparing them carefully, we will find that each one presents, besides the fundamental similarity to all the others, peculiar differences from all the others; and these invariable points of peculiar difference are the "key-notes" in a comparison of such remedies.

Here, then, we have the characteristic peculiarity in the disease that individualizes that case, and we are enabled to call up from the store-house of the Materia Medica and place in apposition with it that medicine which possesses in its pathogenesis a corresponding similar characteristic, peculiarity or "key-note", and which will prove to be the curative agent for that case of disease.

It is charged against the key-note system that it is in conflict

with the doctrine that teaches the necessity of meeting the totality of the symptoms, or, in other words, the doctrine of true homoeopathy. This is by no means true. It is claimed,—not that the key-note in the case is to be alone met by the key-note of the remedy; nor that the whole case is to be met by the key-note alone,—but simply that the predominant symptom or condition of the case that individualizes it and constitutes its key-note, suggests to the mind a medicine having a corresponding predominant symptom, condition or key-note, and that if there has been no error committed either in viewing the key-note of the disease, or of subsequently selecting just that remedy having the corresponding feature, there will then be found in the pages of a symptomen codex, under the heading of that particular remedy, the remaining features, symptoms and conditions of the patient, or, in other words, the "totality." Thus the "key-note", as before explained, is simply suggestive; suggesting by the shortest, surest and most practical method, a remedy; separating and isolating it from all other medicines as having, first : the characteristic symptom or condition or "key-note "in a marked degree; secondly, and consequently, the remaining symptoms or conditions; these constituting together the totality of the case. As a medical friend expresses it in a recent letter, "the key-note gives us the pitch of the tune, but it is not the tune."

After all, it is in this way that true Homoeopathists have ever prescribed. It is not the totality that biases the mind, so to speak, or directs the attention to a certain remedy. It is always something peculiar in the case, some prominent feature, or marked symptom that directs to a certain drug, and the totality afterwards confirms or disapproves the choice. I again repeat, therefore, that the "key-note system" does not in any way interfere with the doctrine of "the totality;" it insists, on the contrary, upon the essentiality of that doctrine, and is the guide to its being properly and practically carried out.

In my recent work on Obstetrics, &c., I have endeavored to carry out this key-note system to a practical determination, so far as my, at present, limited knowledge has permitted. I have not attempted to set down under the head of each remedy in each

disease, the catalogue of symptoms that might be present, but to give the characteristic peculiarities or key-notes of the remedies—such only as had been, in my experience and that of others, "tried, proved and chosen,".—so that the mind might be directed at once in the true direction, the choice to be confirmed by the totality of the symptoms; so that the true key-note being struck, all the other tones would be harmonized with it. It is in this way that I desire to be understood, and those gentlemen who have done me the honour to review my book will bear in mind that this is the true interpretation of the plan I have set forth; and if they will give it their attention, and carefully and conscientiously experiment at every fitting opportunity, they will, ere long, be ready to say yea ! and amen ! to all I have written on the subject.

A few examples, by way of illustration, may not at this juncture be misplaced.

Being called in consultation recently, in a case of dysmenorrhoea, where a great variety of symptoms presented themselves, I was much struck with the devout, beseeching, earnest and ceaseless talking of the patient, and at once suggested to the attending physician the exhibition of Stramonium. Upon comparing symptoms, he replied that all her symptoms were not under the head of that remedy, but agreed to the use of stram., as he could suggest nothing else, adding that if it cured her, "he would cease to believe in the doctrine of totality." I replied that stram. was undoubtedly the remedy, and if it were properly proven and on every variety of temperament and condition, all of her symptoms would be found in the record of its pathogenesis. Stramonium 20 was given, and it quieted her at once, and all her other symptoms speedily vanished, inversely as they had appeared. Her peculiar talking was the last symptom to manifest itself and the first to disappear, and when present in disease in either sex is a key-note to Stramonium.

In cases of hemorrhage, where the blood forms itself into a resemblance to long black strings hanging from the bleeding orifice, crocus will be the remedy; not for the hemorrhage alone, but for the whole chain of symptoms presented by the patient. The hemorrhage being last to appear will be the first to be removed,

and by not now interfering with the curative action in progress, giving no other medicine, and allowing a sufficient time for the action of the dose, the remaining symptoms, constituting the whole condition that has led up to the hemorrhage with its characteristic peculiarity, will be dissipated, inversely as they have appeared.

When, in colicky children, an appearance of red sand is discerned in the diaper, we know that lycopodium is indicated. By the action of that remedy the whole disordered condition of the little one will be removed; the whole chain of disordered action that culminated in this phenomena of the urine. The urine indicates lycopodium, is the key-note in the case for that remedy, and the balance of the little patient's symptoms will be found under it and be removed by it.

I am permitted to refer to the following case, extracted from one of the numerous letters sent me on this subject. In a case of typhoid fever; the last and worst of a malignant epidemic, where the disease had resisted the action of all the medicines given, and the attending and consulting physicians despaired of saving the boy,—a previously healthy, robust lad of sixteen years,—he was restored to his former rugged condition through the action of a remedy suggested solely by a "key-note" symptom. My friend writes, "as I went to his bedside one evenings I noticed a peculiar convulsive movement of the head, such as I had not before noticed in this or any other case, viz.; the head jerked itself clear of the pillow, and then fell immediately back; this being constantly repeated. I at once recalled your key-note for Stramonium. I went to my office, and on comparing the symptoms of the case with the symptomatology of that remedy, I was struck with the wonderful correspondence. I then gave repeated doses of the 3d dilution, acting on my colleagues' advice, but in twenty-four hours saw no improvement. The 30th was then given with no favourable result. I then gave a single dose of stram., 200 at night, and was delighted to see a smile on the face of the anxious mother when I called next morning; 'Henry became quiet,' she said, 'very soon after taking the medicine, and has, for the first time, slept quietly. His convalescence was steady from this period. I gave no other medicine for ten or twelve days. Stramonium saved him, and

your 'key-note' given me in the class was my only guide to it."

The few examples thus cited are sufficient to point out the practical workings of the key-note system. Through it alone, I hold, can the art of prescribing homoeopathically be simplified and rendered exact. By it Stapf was enabled to prescribe correctly, in the presence of an expectant and admiring class, without asking a question; for the objective key-note, revealed in the countenance of the patient, gave him full knowledge that under Cantharis the whole condition and symptoms would be found; and by it hosts of Homoeopathic -physicians since his day have been safely and quickly guided to the truly-healing medium that might have been missed if sought through more complicated channels. The force and truth of HAHNEMANN'S idea that the symptoms of disease are cured inversely as they appear, is beautifully demonstrated if viewed from the standpoint of the key-note system. Through this system the complex and difficult text of the Materia Medica is rendered pure and clear, and every shadow uplifted from its pages; by it Pathology—the servant of Homoeopathy—is brought into fullest and most vigorous usefulness, and diagnosis made exact and availing. As, in the hands of an Agassiz or a Leidy, a few bones or teeth, or the scale of a fish, are sufficient to unfold a whole chapter in the book of natural history, so in Homoeopathic practice, by the characteristic key-note emphasized by the patient, the practitioner is enabled to individualize his case and draw to his aid, thus revealed, the corresponding similar remedy having the totality of the case, and able, ceteris paribus, to cure it.

I have thus attempted to demonstrate the meaning, truth and utility of the "key-note system." Without any attempt at fine writing or display, I have endeavored, in moments of leisure stolen from hours of toil, to set forth with clearness and exactness what I believe to be, not a new doctrine, but a true one in Homeopathy; and if, by reason of this paper or the discussion that may follow it, or any inquiry that may be set on foot through its publication we may be led still farther into what I conceive to be a true path to the correct system of Homoeopathic therapeutics, I shall feel myself amply rewarded.
